In 1664  , the Garscadden estate lying in the parish of Old Kilpatrick, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland, came into the possession of Archibald Colquhoun of Camstradden, Scotland. The main estate house, Garscadden House, built some time after c1723 and enlarged in c1747, stood high above the Garscadden burn, the fantastical south gates, known as the Girnin Gates, lying just west of the village of Drumchapel, Glasgow. These gates, built by the architect Charles Ross of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1789, were the south entrance to the estate.

In 1784  , Campbell of Clathie, Lord Provost of Glasgow, succeeded to the neighbouring Killermont Estate. He married Agnes Colquhoun and in due course their son became heir to both the Killermont and Garscadden Estates. He also combined both family surnames when he adopted for his own name, Campbell Colquhoun. He was the largest proprietor in East Kilpatrick, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, owning about one third of the parish. At this time the family resided at Killermont while Garscadden House was rented to William Connal.

The Glasgow Corporation purchased the estates in 1939  for Glasgow's third peripheral housing scheme, Drumchapel. The scheme was not planned until 1951 but by the 1960s  , both house and gates were engulfed by the new scheme.
