James Fowler, Alexander Taylor, John Milne, George Gordon and Duncan Macauley, with the purpose of promoting their mutual advancement in theological study. Membership was limited to licentiates of the Church of Scotland, with admission granted solely by invitation from a majority of the existing members. The Society met at Aberdeen Grammar School each Friday evening, the business of each evening embracing one written discourse, expository observations on one passage of scripture, and one query (GB 231 MS 1078).
