Administrative / Biographical History
Lord Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom, appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister. From its earliest days, the Lord Lieutenancy has been closely associated with the Magistracy. The Lord Lieutenant also became responsible for the organization of all royal visits to the county. A group of Deputy Lieutenants are appointed by the Lord Lieutenant, and a Vice Lord Lieutenant is selected from among these Deputies.
