Bethel Methodist Chapel was first built in 1808, rebuilt in 1848, enlarged in 1866 and rebuilt again in 1901. The 1901 chapel was built in the Sub-Classical style of the gable-entry type but by 1999 had been converted into residential accommodation. The Methodist Recorder is an independent weekly newspaper that examines events and current affairs within the Methodist community in Britain and worldwide. It has been published continuously since 1861, absorbing its major rivals the Watchman in 1883, the United Methodist in 1932 and the Methodist Times in 1937.
