'Journal of a minor Anglo-Jewish communal official': forty- five diaries of Samuel Morris Rich, 1904-49, including earlier correspondence and press cuttings. Papers relating to the death of Rich, including typescript copies of a valedictory address, 4 Nov 1949; order for the memorial service for Rich, 1949.

Administrative / Biographical History

Samuel Morris Rich (1877-1949) taught at Jews' Free School, 1898-1938. He was the lay minister of the South London Liberal Jewish Synagogue, later becoming full time minister and secretary. Rich was an expert on Charles Lamb and a vice president of the Charles Lamb Society. In 1948 he became a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
