Scope and Content

Notebook, containing tables of barometer and thermometer readings, compiled by William Gretton, Rector of Littlebury, Essex (January-December 1773), as well as a monthly calendar of observations on the flora and fauna in his garden, with sowing and harvesting dates and occasionally the cost of food purchased.

Administrative / Biographical History

William Gretton (1736-1813) was Vicar of Saffron Walden and Rector of Littlebury, both in Essex. He became Archdeacon of Essex, 1795-1813, and was Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge.
