Papers of Corkill, Norman Lace (1898-1966)

Papers of Norman Lace Corkill, c1939-1965 (mostly undated), consisting of a collection of articles by other authors used by Corkill in his work with particular reference to the geography and health of the Arabian area; articles and notes by Corkill concerning nutrition, diet, vitamin deficiency, and disorders and diseases caused by poor nutrition; detailed surveys and breakdown of nutritional content of the local diet and household expenditure on food; reports and documentation on WHO Project Iran, and the Aden Protectorate Health Service; detailed reports by Corkill on his examination of Prisoner of War camps in the Sudan, World War Two and a study of the Nuba community. Also includes correspondence and research relating to a study of folk medicine in Iran carried out in 1966 and nutrition surveys of Iran.

Born 11 Jun 1898; educated Liverpool Institute and Liverpool University; served King's (Liverpool) Regiment, 1915-1919; qualified MB, ChB, University of Liverpool, 1925; MD (Liverpool), 1926; worked in Iraq Health Service, 1927-1930; Professor of Zoology, Royal College of Medicine of Iraq; Civil Staff Surgeon, Baghdad; worked in Sudan Medical Service (SMS), 1930-1946; served in Sudan Defence Force and Royal Army Medical Corps, Mirala (appointed Lt Col), World War Two, 1940-1944; Medical Officer of Health, Khartoum, 1944; Assistant Director (Public Health) SMS, 1945-1946; Senior Lecturer in Tropical Hygiene, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, 1946-1948; Quarantine Expert, Saudi Arabia, 1948-1950; Short Term Consultant in Nutrition, World Health Organization (WHO), 1951; Health Adviser, Aden Protectorate Health Service, 1951-1952; WHO. Nutritionist, Teheran, 1962-1963; died 26 Sep, 1966. Publications: Snakes and Snake Bite in Iraq (1932); The Feeding of Sudanese Infants (1946); contributions on tropical medicine and ophiology.

Arranged into three series: Research papers (Corkill/01); Nutrition surveys in Iran (Corkill/02) and correspondence concerning the paper on 'Tradition and health in Iran with special reference to nutrition and mothers and children' (Corkhill/03).
