Scope and Content

These are the Constituency Papers of Michael Stern, Conservative MP for Bristol North West between 1983-1997. They are arranged in the order of correspondence with constituents, and subject files relating to constituency topics of interest. There are also some materials relating to Parliamentary Standing Committees concerning financial affairs. Also included are papers of the Conservative Bow Group in London in the 1970s, and papers relating to Stern standing as prospective parliamentary candidate for Derby South, 1975-1982.

Administrative / Biographical History

Michael Stern was Conservative MP for Bristol North West between 1983-1997. Prior to this he had worked as an Accountant, and he returned to accountancy in 1997. He was also involved in the Conservative Bow Group in the 1970s, and was Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Derby South, 1975-1982.

Due to the personal nature of the correspondence with North West Bristol constituents, 1983-1997, it has been decided to keep this section closed for thirty years. Subject files are to be kept open, but can be closed if deemed too personal. The Bow Group papers give a good insight into the work of the Conservative Bow Group in London, 1968-1985.
