Scope and Content

An extensive manuscript work entitled Biographical Epitomes of the Bishops and Clergy of the Diocese of Bangor from the Reformation to the Reconstitution consisting of invaluable biographical information regarding the bishops and clergy of Bangor diocese.

Also, a scrap book of cuttings taken from Llan a'r Dywysogaeth of articles by Rev. R. Rhys Hughes, 1936-1937, relating to the following individuals : Sir Thomas ap William, Dr John Davies of Mallwyd, Dr Griffith Williams, John Gwynedd, Goronwy Owen, Ieuan Brydydd Hir and David Rowland, missionary.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. Richard Rhys Hughes retired from the living of Glanogwen Church, Bethesda in May 1947. His papers testify that he spent a lifetime researching and compiling his work on the bishops and clergy of the diocese of Bangor. It is stated in the catalogue description that in order to collect data concerning Zachary Pearce, Bishop of Bangor, 1748-1756, Richard Rhys Hughes went as far afield as Bromley in Kent in order to copy Pearce's epitaph in the parish church.

No further biographical information was available at time of compilation of description.

The Biographical Epitomes of the Bishops and Clergy of the Diocese of Bangor from the Reformation to the Reconstitution are arranged in alphabetical order. The papers have been incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts
