In consideration of £100, John Cawthorn of Chatteris, farmer, leases his 10+ acres of fen adventure ground in Sutton fen to John Curtis of Chatteris, cordwainer, for 1,000 years at no specified rent. Repayment date (with 5% interest) is 9 June 1821. Further, in consideration of 10s paid them by John Carrington Dunn esq of Chatteris, Cawthorn and his wife Ann undertake to levy a fine for assurance of lands, securing the mortgage. Signed and sealed by John Cawthorn, witnessed by Robert Cawthorn, Robert ?Cattridge (who makes his mark), and R W Allpress, attorney, of Chatteris, endorsed as entered in the Bedford Level Company Register on 9 Feb 1821, duty stamps. Signed receipt for the £100 on verso, same date.
