Scope and Content

An incomplete copy of the collected poetry of Gwilym Peris, Awengerdd Peris, bound with manuscript pages of carols and Christmas hymns, being the work of William Edwards (Gwilym Padarn), Robert Davies (Bardd Nantglyn) and Griffith Williams (Gutyn Peris).

Administrative / Biographical History

Griffith Edwards, 1812-1893, was a priest, a poet and an antiquarian. Better known as Gutyn Padarn, he was ordained in 1843 and became the curate of Llangollen, and later Minera in Denbighshire, and then rector of Llangadfan, Montgomeryshire.

William Williams, 1769-1847, was known by his bardic name, Gwilym Peris. His poetical works were published in 1813 under the title Awengerdd Peris.
