A series of commonplace books entitled 'Notions', containing numbered paragraphs on current affairs, the majority appearing to be extracts from speeches in Parliament. The collection includes volumes 1, 3-10, 13-18, 20-23 and 25. Each volume has a list of contents. In MSS.Add.4381-4383 many of the paragraphs are dated and the speaker's name is occasionally pencilled in. Lying in MS.Add.4397 is a visiting card of Wm. Ed. Fiott. This identifies the writer as the brother of John Lee (formerly Fiott), of Hartwell, with some of whose books the volumes were received.
