Scope and Content

Whereas certain disputes have arisen between the Priory of Barnwell and the Town of Cambridge with regard to fishing and pasture rights etc., and certain actions for trespass are in train between the Priory and John Bell of Cambridge and also between John Foster of Ditton and Thomas Mathew of Cambridge, and whereas the parties have named Hewe Chapman, John Porgold, Wylliam Barbar and William Nolson to determine the dispute and have bound themselves to obey their award, the arbitrators having heard the parties make their award as follows: The Town is to enjoy liberty of fishing and fowling in the stream as far as the west wall of the Priory; the Priory is to enjoy the same in the part of the stream opposite the Priory as far as the J(?)esterton ferry; the Town and duly authorised persons may fish in the middle part of the river. The document is incomplete, breaking off in the middle of the award.
