Papers of James Greenwood, YMCA officer, primarily relating to his long association with the British Boys for British Farms (BBBF) and Migration Schemes. These papers comprise leaflets and photographs relating to the scheme from its inception, including an album of photographs relating to the training of W. A. Cooling at Ham Green, 1934; personal correspondence principally with ex-trainees, including a number from Australia, 1952-57; correspondence and other papers from the National Council of YMCAs including letters of appreciation on his retirement in 1953 and his subsequent employment in YMCA hostels and training centres on a relief basis, 1953-58; various papers relating to the BBBF old boys including circular newsletters produced for the old boys by Wilby Beaumont, 1955-56, correspondence with Wilby Beaumont including copies of Greenwood's own memories of the BBBF scheme for the newsletter, 1957-59, photographs of old boys' conferences and summer schools, late 1940s-early 1950s and papers of meetings of the BBBF Full Members' Group, 1955-57. In addition, there is a series of Greenwood's own notes and texts for leading 'Family Circle' meetings and for other talks about the BBBF scheme, late 1940s and early 1950s. The collection also includes a range of miscellaneous printed and circular material relating to the activities of the YMCA and of the Association of Secretaries of YMCAs, 1940s and 1950s and some personal papers relating to his pension.
The papers also include photographs and printed material relating to the emigration of boys under the aegis of the YMCA and in conjunction with the Immigration Board of Home Missions United Church of Canada, the work with which Greenwood was involved before working with the British Boys for British Farms scheme, early 1930s.
The collection also includes a manuscript biography of James Greenwood relating to his service with the YMCA compiled by his grand daughter in 2009.
