Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1845, Archibald and Robert Edmiston and Alexander Mitchell set up in partnership as Edmiston & Mitchells . Initially their offices were in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, Scotland, although they later moved to Gordon Street, then to Renfield Street, St Vincent Place, then Gordon Street again and finally to Wellington Street, Glasgow. The firm were timber brokers and importers and traded in the Baltic States, USA, Canada, South America and Indo-China. After 1982 the company moved its offices to Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and after 1985 moved again to Polmont, Falkirk, Scotland.
