Scope and Content

1 volume, 70 fos., 4 and 23 pp., in stamped and gilded calf boards, Arms of London companies. Seals of colleges, with Garter insignia stamped on front board and Nay- ler's bookplate as Garter King of Arms inside; arms of City of London livery and trading companies, many with engravings of arms, hand-coloured. Between fos. 42 and 44, a MS Catalogue of all the Companies … and Bodies Corporate, in the City of London &c with the time of their respective Incorporation and … the time of their Armorial Ensigns being granted or confirmed …William Fox scripsit: Ao: 1775.
The volume, an alphabetical catalogue of coats of arms of London livery and trading companies, and Oxford and Cambridge colleges, many illustrated with engravings of their arms from at least three publications, was compiled by William Fox in 1775, with later annotations in at least two other hands. One of these is probably Sir George Nayler (1764-1831). The volume was bound after 1822 for 'Sir George Nayler. Garter', as his bookplate inside the front cover shows.
