Scope and Content

This collection was given to Oxfordshire Archives by an unknown donor via the British Records Association in 1940. It was given the BRA number 306, and made part of Accession Number 77.

The papers concern members of the Williams family of Cote and Bampton Aston, in the parish of Bampton. It has not been possible to reconstruct the whole tree, but two especially significant members are Benjamin, and his grandson Thomas, both of whom bought up extensive properties in the area.

The greater part of the collection consists of deeds (of which sections D1-11 concern the Bampton area, and D12-14 concern Standlake, Brighthampton and Hardwick), but also includes part of a 15th century Court Roll, and a document concerning the enclosure of Aston and Cote in 1852.

Recatalogued in July 1994.
