Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Nuffield College is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. Established in 1937 by Lord Nuffield, the college offers postgraduate courses in the social sciences, particularly in Economics, Sociology and Politics. Nuffield College was the first Oxford College to admit men and women, to cater to graduate students only and to be subject orientated. Significantly, the first fellow appointed in 1939 was a woman, Margery Perham, and the college was officially opened in 1958 by the Duke of Edinburgh.
