Scope and Content

Photograph album, and loose photographs, primarily comprising images of Big Batanga, South West Africa [Grand Batanga, Kribi, Cameroon]. Stamp on inside cover indicates album may have been commissioned or created by A. E. Boothby, Plantation, Big Batanga.

Portraits include local indigenous leaders and their wives, such as King Aquah, King Bell, and King Boma; individual and group portraits of indigenous peoples, including the Bulies people of Fernando Po; and individual and group portraits of Western traders. Scenes include the Govenor's residence at Big Batanga; various Western owned factories in Big Batanga, and views of shipping and the coast at Fernando Po [Bioko, Equatorial Guinea], Gold Coast [Ghana], and Gabon.
