Charlotte Kipling (1919-1992) was a statistician and biologist at the Ferry House. She was born the daughter of a ship broker, educated in Liverpool and read economics at Newnham College, Cambridge, and a cypher officer in world war II. Appointed as a part time statistician in 1947, she advised them on presentation and interpretation of the results. She became interested in fish biology, publishing 32 papers and produced a series of papers many in collaboration with Winifred Frost summarising changes in char, pike and perch population in Windermere 1941-1982. She introduced computers to FBA in the 1960s. Membership included the Statistical society and a member of the institute of Biology (Haines 2011: 160). Charlotte died unexpectedly during a short illness on 9 August 1992. She used a munroe electric mechanical calculator up to her retirement. She also had an interest in historical studies, and made scholarly investigations into archival documents to provide information on fisheries
