Scope and Content

Account book of a Scottish firm.

The accounts comprise lists by debtor / creditor of sums due or paid by John Dickson, in particular bonds and their redemption. Ruled columns, headed.

Administrative / Biographical History

There is the very strong impression that this is the ledger of a Writer to the Signet with a wide range of clients in the eastern border counties and Edinburgh. John Dickson of Anthon's Hill [Eccles, Berwickshire] is described as a Writer to the Signet in 1765 but it is likely that this is the son of the John Dickson whose accounts are contained in this volume.
