Ty Mawr Mynydd is located in Holyhead, Anglesey, and was owned by the Hughes family in the 19th and 20th centuries. William Hughes was a customs official in Liverpool in 1840; in 1865, he left for America. The family correspondence covered topics including farming in Britain and America, the American gold rush and Australian gold diggings, land and money values, shipwrecks, work, the price of grain, developments in Holyhead (including the railway, mail boats, World War One, South Stack, steam threshing, the breakwater and property rental), as well as family news.
