Scope and Content

For his homage and service, William Testard' confirms his gift to Richard son of John, and to Richard's heirs, of all the land which the said John held of the said William in the parish of Niudegate [Newdigate, Surrey?] on the day he died. Reserving annual quit-rent of 4s for all services and exactions, apart from those due to the king. For sealing and warranty Richard gives William one mark in gressum. Witnessed by William de Heaure and John his son, Gilbert de Heaure and Simon his son, Walter son of Jordan and John his brother, John de Bisse and Simon his son, and many others. Pendant tagged black round seal of William Testard', with unidentified device. Endorsed in a seventeenth-century hand: 'A release from William Testard / to Richard sonn of John / without date / 4s rent reserved / 12'.
