Gwent Record Office Collection of miscellanea and solicitors' records of Waddington and Co., Usk, and Moxton and Petty, Newport, 1250-1950, including papers relating to the Kemeys-Tynte family, 1539-1915 and the Herbert family of Llanarth and Treowen, 18th cent.-20th cent.

The collection of deeds and documents was formed by the Newport Borough Library. It is a very large collection of various material, all relating to the different parishes of Gwent. Later, it was transferred to Gwent Record Office. The collection was brought together in an artificial topographical arrangement by parishes. Among the more important collections are the papers relating to the Kemeys-Tynte family and the Herbert family of Llanarth and Treowen. The solicitors' records comprise those of Waddington and Co., Usk and Moxton and Petty, Newport. The Coldbrook estate was sold to Arthur Herbert, a second son of the Herbert family of Llanarth. Augusta Hall purchased the estate in 1896. Her heir was Major-General Sir Ivor John Caradoc Herbert (1851-1934) who became Baron Treowen in 1917. The Kemeys family of Cefn Mably descended from Lewis, their eldest son. The Cefn Mably estate remained in the hands of the Kemeys family until the death, unmarried, of Charles Kemeys in 1735. He was succeeded by his sister Jane who married the Rev. John Tynte (d. 1710), 2nd baronet, of Halswell in Somerset, and rector of Goathurst. John Johnson of Glaiston in Rutland and Burhill, Surrey changed his name to John Johnson Kemeys-Tynte (d. 1795).
