Scope and Content

C1. Council minutes: 1573 - 1975 (with some gaps in the period before 1623); Indices, 1698 - 1853 (later volumes are internally indexed). Intially, these were the minutes of Glasgow Town Council before this body was replaced by Glasgow Corporation in 1896.

Descriptive list available at Glasgow City Archives (small amount of uncatalogued material). The first eleven volumes of the printed Extracts from the Records of the Burgh of Glasgow (Scottish Burgh Records Society, 1876 - 1908) are mainly taken from the council minutes and cover the period 1573/4 - 1833. Admissions of burgesses are listed in J. R. Anderson (ed.), The Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow 1573 - 1846 (2 vols, Scottish Record Society, 1925, 1935) (admissions before 1613 are taken from the council minute books or the act books of the Dean of Guild Court).
