Administrative / Biographical History

The National Amalgamated Furnishing Trades' Association was formed in 1902 by an amalgamation of the Alliance Cabinet Makers Association and the United Operative Cabinet and Chairmakers Society of Scotland. In 1911 the Amalgamated Society of Gilders (1809) and Amalgamated Society of French Polishers (1894) joined. In 1947 the union amalgamated with the Amalgamated Union of Upholsterers to form the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives (NUFTO).
