Administrative / Biographical History
The Independent Order of Rechabites was a friendly society which was formed in Salford, Lancashire, in 1835. In common with other friendly societies, the Rechabites provided mutual aid for its members. However the society also promoted temperance, which was a condition of membership. The Order was made up of branches, known as Tents, which were grouped into Districts. There were also Juvenile Tents for the under-16s. The Pembrokeshire 'tents', including Pembrokeshire Castle Tent (No. 1468), Pembroke Castle Juvenile Tent(No. 584), Dyffryn Clethus Tent (No. 4746), and Rose of Cambria Tent (No. 895), formed District Number 69 (Pembrokeshire District).
