Scope and Content

WILL: Richard Williams of Porthaethwy co. Anglesey, gent.

He directs that his trustees, the Rev. John Evans, of Ty Gwyn, co. Anglesey, clerk and Thomas Williams of Llanidan, co. Anglesey Gent. are to pay an annuity of £20 to his servant Jane Parry, and annuities of 40s to Andrew Brereton of Llanfechell, schoolmaster and to Thomas Roberts his servant.

The residue of the estate is devised to his sister Mary, the wife of William Davies of Anglesey, innkeeper, and her children, until his eldest nephew David Williams otherwise Davies, attains the age of 21 when he is to inherit the estate or if he should die before then it is to be shared equally between all his sister's children.

He gives his clothes to his servant Thomas Roberts and his silver plate to his eldest nephew.

The residue of his estate is left in trust to his sisters children.

He requests that his servant Jane Parry should see to his funeral and he asks to be buried in Llangoed churchyard with his wife.

He appoints his sister and John Evans as executrix and executor.

Administrative / Biographical History

A will or testament is a legal document by which a person, the testator, expresses their wishes as to how their property is to be distributed at death, and names one or more persons, the executor, to manage the estate until its final distribution. Though it has at times been thought that a "will" was historically limited to real property while "testament" applies only to dispositions of personal property (thus giving rise to the popular title of the document as "Last Will and Testament"), the historical records show that the terms have been used interchangeably.
