Scope and Content

The study consists of 14 tape-recorded interviews with members of the Colliery Officials and Staffs Association (COSA), various local strike committee members and other individuals 1972-1973. The recordings were made 1972-1973 but cover the period 1912-1973 in subject matter.

Administrative / Biographical History

The 1972 Miners' Strike Study was created as an off-shoot of the The First South Wales Coalfield Project 1972-1974 sponsored by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and carried out by the Swansea University. The tape-recordings were made during the course of the 1972 Miners' Strike. The study team set out to record the events as they were taking place and the study is therefore a unique account of the feelings of the miners themselves both during the strike and its aftermath.
