Henry Jenkyns Lectures

Notes on the lectures of Professor Jenkyns in Divinity given over a two year cycle, made by his students (including J. Low Low, M.A. 1846, afterwards Vicar of Whittonstall).

Henry Jenkyns (1795-1878) was educated at Eton College and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and was a fellow of Oriel from 1818-35. In 1833 he became the first professor of Greek and classical literature at the University of Durham and in 1835 he also became acting professor of Divinity. In 1839 he became the last prebend of Durham Cathedral before the reforms of 1840 and from 1840-1864 he was Professor of Divinity (resigning the Greek and classical chair in 1840).

In 1888 four volumes of notes by J. Low Low were offered for sale and purchased by the University Library. An effort was then made to collect the complete set of lectures by appealing to former students to donate their notes or lend them for copying.
