Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Formed in Manchester in 1866 as the Amalgamated Society of Tailors, the union became the Amalgamated Society of Tailors and Tailoresses in 1906. It absorbed a number of local societies of tailors before merging with the Tailors and Garment Workers' Union in 1932 to form the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers.
