Administrative / Biographical History
First met in 1903. Founded by Margaret Benson in order to achieve 'more systematic Scriptural Study than is at present open to educated women', specifically those involved with the 'religious teaching of the young, or with the religious needs of the working classes'.
The V.T.B.S. (a registered charity) continues to be held each summer, primarily devoted to the study of the Bible and related subjects. The aim is to enable people of all ages, occupations and denominations to become acquainted with contemporary scholarship. See http://www.vtbs.org.uk/
