Administrative / Biographical History

Thomas Dunlop Laird was born in Stewarton c1872, the son of Robert Laird, a farmer, and attended the University of Glasgow in the sessions 1894/1895 and 1895/1896, however he did not graduate. In 1894/1895 he took classes in Scots Law and in 1895/1896 he studied classes in conveyancing.

In 1901 Laird went to Paisley to join the firm T & W Walker, writers, after occupying the leading position in a Glasgow office. On the death of the firm's partner, William Walker, Laird succeeded to the post of Burgh Prosecutor in 1922.

Laird also acted as Session Clerk for Paisley Abbey for about 30 years, and during his tenure focused on restoring and maintaining the Abbey to ensure its continued use as a place of worship.

Thomas Dunlop Laird passed away on 5 February 1960 in Glasgow.
