This is a contemporary manuscript copy of Admiral Sir William Monson's 'naval tracts', dating from the mid to late seventeenth century. Monson's 'naval tracts' recount his experiences and adventures (some occurring fifty years prior to writing) as a naval officer as well as describing the activities of his contemporaries (including Spanish and Portuguese sailors). Although some material in this volume notes expeditions to and landings in African and Asian countries the majority of this work concentrates on European maritime history, and in particular, the activities of the English Navy.
'The voyages and adventures of English fleetes. Ao 1585 etc. written by ye famous Commander Sr C1663 Wm. Mounson, sometymes Admirall.'
