Papers of Richard Jones, Llanwnda

Diaries, 1904-1935, of a secular nature, containing details of meetings, contracting work and other activities. Letter books, 1927-1935, on work related matters. Diaries, 1893-1928, of a religious nature, consisting of names of preachers and sermon topics. Also, an account book of Bwlan Calvinist Methodist Chapel in Llandwrog, 1901-1907.

Richard Jones was a well-known figure in Llanwnda, Caernarfonshire and the surrounding area. He served his apprenticeship as a carpenter with Evan Jones, Dolydd and married Margaret Roberts of Llandwrog in 1888. Initially, they lived at Cae'r Bongam, Llanwnda, but in 1905, they purchased an old mansion, Bryn Rhedyn in Llandwrog and built a large house there.

He worked as a successful contractor for years, building several chapels, schools and hotels. After the war, his contracting work did not flourish and he turned to farming Bryn Rhedyn. Later in life, he moved to live near Bwlan Chapel in Llandwrog.

He was a member of the County Council and Gwyrfai District Council. In 1898 he became a deacon of Bwlan Chapel, Llandwrog.

Incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts , arranged according to record type and then chronologically.
