    • 1 vol. (72 ff.) Bound in contemporary sheep, with marbled paper crudely pasted over boards, manuscript label in centre of front cover inscribed "Poems &c by James Dallaway", and spine lettered in manuscript "POETRY Dallaway". Armorial bookplate of James Dallaway pasted inside front cover, with "of Miserden, Gloster" and number "139" added in manuscript. Evidently autograph and compiled in stages, with first sequence of 18 poems to f.24r, then second of 14 poems to f.43v, followed by further poems thereafter and inserted in spaces throughout.

Scope and Content

Title page, f.1r (verso blank): "Poems &c by James Dallaway (began in the year 1747)", with cross-hatched decoration in yellow and green; f.2r-v: "The contents", listing 43 poems on succeeding pages numbered 1-92 (ff.3r-48v); ff.49r-72r: blank; f.72v: financial calculations and fragment of seal. Some poems dated from 1747 to 1758; first has minor revisions; several have later explanatory notes; several refer to the author's relatives, including James Bradley, astronomer-royal.
