Lease and release, Coveney, Witcham and Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire

Richard Blow of Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire, maltster, conveys his 108+ acres in Hale Fen, Coveney and Witcham (Bedford Level Lot 13 No 3) and property in Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire to his principal creditors Charles Calvert of Upper Thames St, London, brewer, James Searle of Saffron Walden, Essex, banker, William Thurnall of Whittlesford, maltster, to hold in trust as security on his repayment of #10,875 owing them at an agreed 8s in the #, in two instalments, confirmed by promissory notes. His father William Blow of Little Shelford, Cambridgeshire, farmer, stands surety to induce Richard's other creditors (the fifth parties to the indenture) to accept this rate of repayment. Richard had owed this sum to James Blow of Ware, Hertfordshire, maltfactor, who had been declared bankrupt in 1810, Calvert, Searle and Thurnall being the principal creditors. Five-part indenture of 7 pages, signed and sealed by Richard, William, and James Blow, witnessed by H Blow, John Wallis, J Wedd of Royston and Ed Randall of Cambridge, with lease for a year signed by Richard Blow and witnessed by Wedd and Randall. Endorsed as entered in the Bedford Level Company Register on 10 July 1811, duty stamps.
