Scope and Content

This collection comprises the personal papers of Miss Lorna Bowden relating to her service as a Church Missionary Society (CMS) missionary in the Weithaga District, Kenya. It includes her diaries covering the period 1922-1944 together with some separate diaries of trips including one to Mount Kenya in 1940; various letters to her family; and other miscellaneous papers including notes for talks she gave and a number of photographs including some of the building of Weithaga church in 1934-1935.

Administrative / Biographical History

Lorna Alberta Bowden was accepted for missionary training by the CMS in 1921. She served in the Weithaga District, Kenya and retired in 1953.

This collection forms part of the Church Missionary Society Unofficial Papers. It is arranged into two series: Family Papers and Miscellaneous Papers.

Presented to the CMS in June 1973; transferred on permanent loan to the Special Collections Department by the CMS in the 1980s.
