Administrative / Biographical History

The project entitled Legacy of Partition, 1947–2009, funded at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland (ROLLR) by the Museums, Libraries and Archives partnership, was aimed at gathering the memories of Leicestershire people who lived through the upheaval of Indian partition in 1947 and exploring the understanding of these events among the younger generation today. This collection was created as part of a larger project by the ROLLR to commemorate 60 years since the partition of India. Relevant literature was collected by local libraries, guests came from India and Pakistan, work was done with local schools, an Indian newspaper collection was deposited with ROLLR, and a website was created. Extracts from the interviews have been placed on the project website and turned into a CD.
