The Academic Practice Committee was concerned with teaching and examination methods and student progress. It reported to the Senate. In 2000, it was replaced by the Academic Committee.

The Registry was responsible for student administration including admissions, registration, student records, examinations, graduations and room booking. The Registry was the responsibility of the Secretary.

Some faculties and departments had their own codes of practice, additional to the University code of practice. For example:
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences code of practice for supervision of postgraduate research students [ref: GB 249 OF/100/17] and
Faculty of Engineering code of practice for postgraduate student research [ref: GB 249 OF/101/3].
In 2000, the University code of practice was replaced by the University procedures and guidelines for postgraduate research programmes [ref: OS/56/2].
