fo. 3: 'Herbert Palmer 1642'. in red ink: (fo. 9v) 'Hitchin'; (fo. 87) 'O.C.C.'; (fo. 122) 'H.P.' inside back cover: 'Make C... From l...' (17th cent. hand). fos 115-16: blank. Fos 114-109, 121v-117 are written from the end of the book. Inside front cover is leaf with names in a 16th cent. hand, perhaps from a rental. On flyleaf: 'This C. P. Book of Herbert Palmer I bought along with a little vol. of his sermons from a bookseller in Canterbury. It is verified (besides his faint autograph ... by the recurrence of 'Mote' and 'Hitchin' and 'H' (probably for Hitchin) in the body of the little book. The former was the residence of Viscount Maindstone, Palmer's bosom-friend, & as he was appointed Lecturer at Hitchin on Feb. 19th 1642, most probably these markings note that he had used these portions in lecturing ... Alex B. Grosart, St George's Blackburn 18th June 1876.'
