Scope and Content

The papers of the Lewis family consist of notebooks containing lists of guests at dinner-parties and other social events given by Sir George and Elizabeth, Lady Lewis, 1876-1919, with letters to Lady Lewis and Gertrude Lewis, 1896-1908.

Administrative / Biographical History

The members of the Lewis family represented in this collection are as follows: Elizabeth, Lady Lewis (1844-1931); her husband Sir George Lewis, 1st Bart. (1833-1911), solicitor; and one of their daughters, Gertrude Elizabeth Lewis (later Burney). Details for Sir George Lewis are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.
