Scrapbook of Charles Wordsworth (1806-1892), bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane.
Most of the contents are newspaper cuttings from national and local papers relating to Wordsworth's family, to his episcopal activities, and to Trinity School, Glenalmond [Perthshire]. Various of the cuttings have marginal annotations in the hand of his son.
The printed ephemera include the order of service for the University of Edinburgh commemoration service of 18 April 1889, the hymn sheet from Wordsworth's funeral service, 9 December 1892, printer's fly-sheets for Wordsworth's Shakespeare's Historical Plays, a wedding hymn composed by Wordsworth [for the wedding of his daughter Margaret], the order of service of the funeral of Thomas Leigh Claughton, bishop of St Albans, 29 July 1892, a testimonial from G A Jamieson in favour of Robert Wordsworth.
Manuscript items include a poem by George S Farquhar, My Lord, on this your natal day, a poem by A.P.S, Hail happy haven, various poems and epigrams by Wordsworth, an analysis of the Forfar [Angus] congregation on 12 June 1881, a letter from Christopher Wordsworth, bishop of Lincoln to his clergy, [undated], and a draft of a speech of [R W Wordsworth ?] sometime secretary of the Perthshire Cricket Club noting the recent visit of the all England cricket XI. An autograph note of Wordsworth records his decision not to stand for the headship of Harrow School [Middlesex].
