Visual Publications Collection

Educational filmstrips and accompanying transcripts covering a large number of subjects, including art history (painting, sculpture, and architecture), applied art, geography and the environment, history, science, and religion.

Visual Publications Ltd was founded by John Aspinwall in 1948. He was one of the earliest producers of filmstrips for education and became the most successful audio-visual publisher in the country. The packs were produced primarily for the secondary school market. The company closed in 2005.

Before your first visit to the Special Collections Reading Room please complete a Reading Room registration form . The form is also available from the Headington Library Enquiry Desk. Internal staff and students will be asked to show their University ID card, and external applicants should bring proof of address

Applicants are bound by the Reading Room regulations .

The Reading Room is open between 1pm and 5pm, Monday to Friday, during the University semesters (dates available here ) and researchers can visit by prior appointment outside these times; Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. The company passed to Peter Loveday, and, after the closure of the company, the collection was donated to Oxford Brookes University by Peter Loveday and his wife Sarah (daughter of John Aspinwall).
