Administrative / Biographical History

The Wharfedale Medical Society was established in 1964, a membership group open to any registered medical practicioner residing or practising within the area of the Wharfedale Group, situated in West Yorkshire. The first meeting was held at Otley General Hospital in October 1964, with Dr R A Bruce as its inaugural president. The society's aims were to unify and strengthen professional endeavour, bringing together medical practicioners through talks and events, and establishing a library for the use of its members, as well as social activities such as wine and cheese parties. The Wharfedale Medical Society would also donate funds to local events and projects.
