Administrative / Biographical History

Bontnewydd, Caernmarfonshire, is on the Welsh Highland Railway route from Caernarfon to Dinas Mawddwy; it was the location of a signalling box and station. The line was built in th late 19th century and operated by Welsh Highland Light Railway Ltd, which was restructured and renamed in 1964 to Welsh Highland Light Railway (1964) Co Ltd. A new station, Bontnewydd Halt, was built in response to requests from villagers and opened in May 1999.
