Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Dyfed was the former county of southwest Wales, created in 1974, covering the earlier counties of Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire. The County Council inherited some records and documents from its predecessor bodies, and printed material, including Acts of Parliament relating to the area. In 1996 it was abolished, and the area was divided between the unitary authorities of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire. Some later material has been added to series in the Dyfed County Council collection post-dating its abolition.
