Correspondence and reports relating to Robertson's proposals for a central overseas civil service, with its own pension scheme, for officers serving in the colonies, 1953-1955.

Administrative / Biographical History

Algar Ronald Ward Robertson (1902-1975) worked as Assistant Treasurer, Gold Coast, 1929-1936 and Deputy Treasurer, British Guiana, 1936-1939. He was Financial Secretary in Fiji, 1940-1948, Trinidad and Tobago, 1948-1953, Nigeria, 1953-1954, and the Federation of Nigeria, 1954-1956. Awarded the CBE, 1948 and CMG, 1953, he was twice married, in 1931 to Carol Rhys Maunsell, with whom he had one daughter (the marriage was dissolved in 1954), and in 1955 to Marjorie Mary Lovatt Smith.
