H. P. Moon Collection

Research notes and correspondence of Harold Philip Moon (d. 1982), during his time at Wray Castle and at the University of Southampton. Includes his research and preparatory manuscripts, drawings, and photographs for surveys and work on invertebrates undertaken on Lake Windermere, River Avon, Southern England water meadows, and Lake Balaton (Hungary)

Professor H. P. Moon was one of the earliest workers for the Freshwater Biological Association in its early days at Wray castle, in 1932 and 1933. During his time he carried out pioneer work on the littoral invertebrates - a field of study that was to be his main interest throughout the rest of his life. Later Mr Moon joined the staff of the Avon Biological Research and rejoined the FBA staff when the Association took over responsibility for that laboratory in 1938. In 1942, in Dr. Macan's absence, Mr Moon organized and taught the Easter class. After the war, when he became Professor of Zoology at the University of Leicester, Moon was elected to the FBA Council and served, with compulsory breaks, from 1946 until 1963.
