Max Tilke Costume Plates

Plates depicting the costumes and fashions from Italy, Southwestern Germany, Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria. The costumes illustrated range from early christian through to the 19th century. All of the plates are numbered and likely have been cut out and removed from Adolf Rosenberg's "The design and Development of Costume" c.1925. The sequence of numbers is possibly irrelevant due to the plates having been removed from the original publication.

Max Karl Tilke operated as an illustrator of historic and contemporary costumes from around 1900. His work secured his reputation as an artist and ethnographer, which gained him a reputation among the authorities and in high society.

Chronologically arranged by date of costume subjects on lithograph print. The plates are numbered but not in any particular sequence.
